Introduction to Buddhism

OVER 2,500 YEARS ago the Buddha Shakyamuni overcame all delusion and realized the true nature of mind, developing perfect wisdom and compassion. This he accomp lished, not through relying on external gods, materialistic pursuits or extreme asceticism, but by examining and working inwardly with his own mind. To guide others to this same realization the Buddha taught the path of disciplined practice of mental and spiritual development, encouraging people to live according to noble ethics, to develop compassion and loving-kindness for all beings, and to awaken their own inherent insight into the nature of reality. Through this, suffering and its causes are eliminated and one experiences supreme and lasting bliss and joy.

From extraordinary practitioners who realized and embodied these teachings they have continued unbroken to the present day. In particular the Mahamudra lineage of the Kagyupa is the crown jewel of contemplative practice and to connect to this tradition and its teachers is of supreme benefit.
