In May 2002, at the invitation of the Dalai Lama Trust, His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama of Tibet returned to New Zealand for his third visit. For the brief few days he was here he embarked on a busy schedule of teachings, public talks and discussions with a wide variety of people from our now multi-cultured society. His message was simple: the need to develop our inherent human values of love, compassion, tolerance, forgiveness, self-discipline and contentment in order to have a happier healthier life for ourselves, and in order to create a more harmonious, peaceful and compassionate society. This is not just some ideal, but the right and wish of everyone. The many thousands who turned out to see and listen to His Holiness are surely testament to a society searching for means other than aggression and materialism to achieve this.
From this inspiration comes the publication of these talks and our wish that this profound message can be widely available and of everlasting benefit. May the merit of this activity be a cause for world peace and the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
